Traditionalism and Christianity do not mix!
This played out when a traditional healer bashed his wife causing her to suffer a miscarriage, after she went to hospital without his permission.
The traditional healer, Agrippa Muleya (46), from Mbembesi ,recently appeared in court before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Ernest Muzembi facing physical assault charges.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his defence, he said he beat up his wife, Primrose Muleya after she received a message on her cell phone and refused to disclose the person who had sent it.
Muleya said he suspected that she was cheating on him and beat her up.
He also revealed that he is a firm believer in traditionalism and his ancestors.
He further said no one at his home and under his watch should seek help from the hospital, as he is a traditional healer. However, after the trial, he was convicted and sentenced to serve eight months in prison.
Three months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within a period of five years.
Muleya will serve five months behind bars.
In sentencing him, the magistrate stated that cases of physical abuse were rampant in Mbembesi and the sentence will send a strong message of warning to potential law-breakers.
