TRADITIONAL leaders have endorsed the Zanu-PF victory at the recently held harmonised elections saying the development spelt hope for Zimbabweans. In separate interviews with The Herald on the sidelines of the National Heroes Day commemorations in Harare on Monday, chiefs said the revolutionary party could go ahead and implement its people-centred empowerment programmes that were being frustrated by MDC formations during the inclusive Government era.
Zanu-PF Presidential candidate, Cde Mugabe won 61,09 percent of the vote while his party bagged 161 National Assembly seats – making it possible for the party to control business of the House including amending the Constitution, if need be.
On the other hand, MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai managed 33,94 percent while his party only won 49 seats in the National Assembly making them ceremonial representatives with no muscle to influence policy.
MDC formations have been resistant to black empowerment programmes that were implemented by Zanu-PF from the land reform to the indigenisation and empowerment drive.
“This victory is important in that the MDCs have been defeated so Zanu-PF can go back and work without interruptions, without unnecessary conflict and disharmony in order to implement economic empowerment programmes and see that the aspirations of Zimbabweans are achieved and realised,” said president of the Chief’s Council Chief Fortune Charumbira.
He said the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment drive being spearheaded by Zanu-PF would benefit the nation at large.
