FOUR buses were on Tuesday impounded for picking up passengers at undesignated points in Harare.
Two Ally Trans bus drivers were found picking up passengers opposite Polytech along Bulawayo Road while African Stroller bus driver was arrested picking along Sam Nujoma Street.
Stallion Cruise bus and a commuter omnibus driver were also caught picking passengers at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show grounds along Bulawayo Road.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case appealing to transport operators to conduct their business in an orderly manner.
“Police have impounded four buses for picking up passengers at undesignated points.
“We continue to warn bus drivers over violating road traffic rules and respect their route and timetables and operate within their stipulated ranks.
“Let it be known that there is no rank or picking point along Sam Nujoma Road.
“Hitch-hiking at undesignated points will have commuters arrested.
“Robbery and rape cases involving vehicles picking passengers at undesignated points have been reported.
“Police will continue to impound buses, commuter omnibuses, and Mushikashika as a way of preventing crime and bringing order,” said Insp Chakanza.
