THE Traffic safety council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has launched a 24-hour toll free call centre to ensure accident victims get medical help as soon as possible. The council has also launched a vigorous social media and highway campaign to complement the call centre. The campaign is meant to improve response time in the event of an accident in order to save lives.
The toll free numbers are 0806 7700 4090 and the contact number is 0784 008 194. Members of the public and motorists can send texts and WhatsApp messages.
The council’s spokesperson Ernest Muchena said the campaigns were rolled out last Friday countrywide and would continue into the New Year. “The campaigns began on December 18 and 14 teams have been deployed on the country’s major highways and rest points where we engage members of the public and motorists on the importance of safety on our roads.
We even check their tyres, tell them of the road ahead particularly curves, watching out for stray animals and other safety precautions they must observe,” said Muchena.
He said officials from the Traffic Safety Council were also encouraging motorists to observe the new traffic regulations recently announced by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.
“We launched the 24-hour free call centre after realising that people don’t know who to call when an accident happens particularly on the highway. This shortcoming is causing delays in reporting accidents resulting in police and and ambulance crews arriving late to save lives.
