A sombre mood hangs over the FC Platinum camp tonight after a supporters bus was involved in a horrific road accident just 25 kilometres from Chiredzi, on its way back from the team’s away match against GreenFuel in Chisumbanje.

The bus collided head on with a Toyota Hilux. The Hilux driver died on the spot.

While there were no fatalities aboard the bus, several FC Platinum supporters sustained injuries. Details of the injured remain sketchy, but sources confirmed that some fans were rushed to local medical centres for treatment.

The accident comes barely hours after the Zvishavane side pulled off a dramatic 1-0 win over GreenFuel in Chisumbanje, a classic smash-and-grab sealed by Jarrison Selemani’s stoppage time free kick.

What should have been a night of celebration has turned into one of grief and anxiety.

While there were no fatalities aboard the bus, several FC Platinum supporters sustained injuries.

It’s another painful blow to the FC Platinum family, still reeling from the death of midfielder Brian Banda late last month. Banda died in a separate car crash near Filabusi after a Proton Bakeries vehicle he was travelling in overturned while trying to avoid a head on collision.

That accident claimed two lives, including Banda’s, and came just days before winger Oscar Bhebhe was also involved in a separate crash that left him with a broken arm.

Tonight’s incident adds to a grim run of tragedies for the club, prompting calls for tighter safety protocols for both players and supporters travelling long distances for PSL fixtures.

Police are investigating the latest crash. The club was yet to release an official statement by the time of writing.
