A 32-year-old nurse was on Tuesday stabbed to death by his brother after a row over a cigarette.

The incident happened in Chitungwiza.

Tatenda Mupanduki, a nurse at Chivhu Hospital, was pursuing studies in midwifery at Chitungwiza General Hospital.

He had a misunderstanding with his brother Simbarashe Mupanduki, 26.

The row centred over a cigarette, which Tatenda bought for their father, Pangani Mupanduki, 57.

Simbarashe, a security guard, questioned why Tatenda chose to buy the cigarette for their father instead of buying one for him.

“After Tatenda bought a cigarette for me, I left them (Tatenda and Simbarashe) drinking beer together and retired to bed.

“An argument later arose between the two as to why Tatenda had bought a cigarette for me and not for Simbarashe.

“Simbarashe further questioned Tatenda as to why he loved me more than him.

“He demanded back his cellphone from Tatenda and proceeded into the kitchen and took a kitchen knife and threatened to stab him.

“My sister tried in vain to restrain them.”

He added:

“Simbarashe went to his bedroom, Tatenda followed and slapped him several times.

“I restrained them and the altercation appeared to have subsided temporarily and the parties moved into the dining room.

“Simbarashe again ran into the kitchen, took another kitchen knife, charged towards Tatenda and stabbed him once on the back at the right lower shoulder blade.

“We rushed Tatenda to Chitungwiza Hospital, where he is a midwifery student, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival, leading to the arrest of Simbarashe,” said Panganai.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.

However, H-Metro is reliably informed that the case was reported at Chitungwiza Police Station under RRB 7076002.
