Train agro-dealers: Dinha

Addressing delegates in Mazowe at the opening of an eight-day training workshop for agro-dealers, Mashonaland Central Governor and Resident Minister, Advocate Martin Dinha, said training would contribute to achieving national food security.
The training programme is being spearheaded by the Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa, which is a Comesa specialised agency.
“Training agro-dealers should be prioritised as they become information centres for small holder farmers in their respective trading areas.
“Meaningful contribution by these dealers will eventually lead to food security in the country, the region and beyond considering that the bulk of the country’s produce is grown here,” Adv Dinha said.
Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development acting director of economics and markets, Mr Collen Kabudura, said the training would equip dealers with modern business skills.
“The participants should take this opportunity to sharpen their business skills,” he said.
About 1 000 agro-dealers countrywide will benefit from the training programme, which was started in 1995.
The trained dealers, who will latter be accredited, will receive financial support from Actesa.
Participating dealer, Ms Shelter Chitsungo said the training would equip her with robust skills critical towards improving business.
“This is a noble initiative that will improve business operations,” she said.
Comesa is also rolling out the training programme across the bloc. – New Ziana.
