Trained female teacher officiate boxing in Pretoria

Masvingo Provincial Coordinator with Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board has hailed Patience Ngubo who officiated at the African Boxing Union tournament at Carousel Casinon held in Pretoria recently.

Tapera Kudakwashe said, Patience , who is a female teacher, represented the country well.

“Patience trained as a Technical official in July 2022 in Victoria Falls at the All Africa Technical Officials training which was presided over by the World Boxing Council Vice President who is also the African Boxing Union President Mr Houcine Houchi.

“We are happy that yesterday she officiated at the African Boxing Union tournament at Carousel Casino in Pretoria.

 

“We are planning to conduct technical officials training and coaches training from the second quarter of the year.”

 

He encourages women to participate in various roles in sport.

 

“To the women out there I want to encourage them to take up various roles in combat sport which is a tool for social and economic development.

 

“Furthermore, combat sport is not a preserve for males only the sport codes and various roles are tailor made to accommodate both males and females.

 

“We are encouraging all women out there to join the combat sport industry,” said Tapera.

 

He added:

 

“Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board promotes an inclusive combat sport development initiative such as development of sport clubs, academies, training of coaches and technical Officials.

 

“The thrust is on breaking the bias through engaging women and the girl child to take up various roles in combat sport be it as athletes, coaches, technical officials, administrators, promoters, volunteers, spectators you name it everyone has a role in combat sport.

 

“We have come up with various programs such as Great Girls in Gloves which targets girls to be boxers.

 

“Capacity development initiatives for coaches and technical officials where women participation is encouraged.

 

“All this has been made possible through making combat sport a safe sport where the rights, welfare and dignity of stakeholders is a top priority.”
