THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is conducting its 2026 Mid-Year Strategic Review Workshop in Bulawayo to assess progress on key infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation programmes and the performance of State enterprises and parastatals.
The workshop brings together senior ministry officials and executives from transport sector parastatals to evaluate achievements recorded during the first half of the year, identify implementation challenges and refine strategies for the remainder of 2026.
The review sessions are also intended to align transport sector priorities with broader national economic development goals through policy evaluation, performance assessment and strategic planning.
Permanent Secretary for Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Joy Makumbe, is expected to officially preside over the workshop on Friday.
Addressing delegates on Thursday, the Ministry’s Director for Policy and Planning, Mr Takura Vengesa, said the gathering provided an opportunity for the Ministry and its State enterprises and parastatals to take stock of their performance during the first six months of the year.
“Welcome to the 2026 Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Mid-Term Review Workshop. This workshop provides a platform to review how we collectively performed in the first half of 2026 — both as the Ministry and its various State enterprises and parastatals,” he said.
Mr Vengesa said the workshop would focus on assessing progress made during the first half of the year while identifying gaps and challenges encountered during programme implementation.
He said the review would also enable participants to draw lessons that could improve service delivery as Government enters the final stages of implementing NDS2.
“The importance of this review is that it enables the Ministry’s Mid-Term Review of the 2026 Annual Plan and informs our Corporate Governance Oversight Workshop scheduled for this weekend here in Bulawayo. Insights gathered will inform and enrich those upcoming sessions, ensuring a fully integrated and evidence-driven approach to planning and oversight.
“As the Ministry enters the final phase of National Development Strategy 2, our focus must now shift towards consolidating successes, closing any performance gaps and accelerating the pace of results achievement,” said Mr Vengesa.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona is expected to preside over the Corporate Governance Oversight Workshop scheduled for the weekend.
