Treat Bev with caution

Prophetic Healing and Deliverence ministries leader Walter Magaya’s effort to assist Beverly “Bev” Sibanda see the light of deliverance through quitting the showbiz stage was a noble idea but the way it was executed had serious loopholes that could dent the man of God’s image in a big way.
Magaya was correct in making all efforts to assist one of his followers earn a living through what he termed ‘decent means’ of income and Bev saw an opportunity of making money and took it. She agreed to quit pole dancing and was assisted to open a shop in the city.

Now that Bev has torched a storm and dragged Magaya’s name into controversy through her rowdy behaviour, it might be time for the church leader to look back and discern the mistakes he made in delivering his noble gesture.

Magaya should have known that Beverly had always visited prophets for various reasons. She is on record saying she consults prophets for assistance in her work. She said so after our sister paper H-Metro spotted her at a prophet’s shrine. She was in the class of many women that consult prophets without necessarily seeking repentance. There are many women that go to kneel at those shrines for various reasons when they do not belong to a prophet’s church. They just go to a prophet that would be popular in that era – “Ndeupi muporofita arikunyatsoona mazuvano?” They ask.

So, when Bev went to Magaya’s church, there is a high probability that she had a problem that she wanted solved because the prophet had just become popular. We are not told about the problem but we only know she had come to church. Maybe she had come for salvation. Maybe – she knows better.

Magaya should have known why Bev had come to church.

Maybe he was told but I doubt very much that Bev told him she was no longer interested in dancing. Those who know Bev well should understand better.

After realising that Bev had come to church, Magaya went on to phone Beverly saying he wanted to assist her and she should come to his other service. While it is a known Christian doctrine to be fishers of men and to approach people for salvation, something was just not right in the way Magaya went on for this fish.

The way he promised Bev material benefit for salvation was amiss.

We grew up being told to “repent and have your name written in the book of life” not “repent and get a ‘clean’ business to make money”.

Very few people would have resisted the offer of free business capital. Bev just acted in a normal way but we all know that salvation is about the heart.  Magaya gave Bev’s dancers capital f

or flea market business but he should take that as a normal gesture of charity because these ones actually came to church after the boutique offer to their boss.

The recent incident at Magaya’s residence where Bev fought with another girl should tell Magaya about the character he is dealing with. Bev has always been like that. It is not proper to judge a person’s faith but that incident portrays Bev’s ‘old’ character. But why does Magaya meet people at home when he has such a large following? He should consider having an office away from home.

Now that Bev’s manager Hapaguti Mapimhidze has come clean that he went to Magaya’s church for material benefits, it is almost certain Bev will soon quit the church and return to the stage.

Mapimhidze says business is low at the shop and he cannot suffer when he only came to church because of material benefits. He is honest that he does not want to pretend before God. (He has already done so anyway).

People should know that Mapimhidze’s ideas reflect Bev’s intentions. Mapimhidze controls

Bev in almost everything. That is why he says he will not work with any other artist because he knows Bev will go back to dancing.

The whole Magaya-Bev issue could have been church drama.

If so, Magaya should guard against similar mistakes next time.
