Treat for jazz fans

BULAWAYO youthful jazz outfit, Afro Fresh Jazz Band, will tomorrow evening perform at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo (NAGZ) as a way of promoting jazz music.
The Bulawayo Amazing Talent winners are set to thrill jazz enthusiasts in a show dubbed “Afrofresh Jazz Nights” that is a joint venture between them and NAGZ.
The nine-member group is made up of National University of Science and Technology students.

In an interview yesterday, band member Nqobile Behane said the Afrofresh Jazz Nights would be a monthly event and tomorrow’s show starts at 5.30PM till late.
“The jazz nights will be done in partnership with the gallery.

“They want to help market us, give us a venue to perform and at the same time promote art. A local company, Music Shop is providing the public address system. We want to see where this will take us as a group. I believe it is a great opportunity for us to grow,” he said.

Behane said jazz fans should come and watch the youthful group as they would perform their songs and other popular jazz tunes.
“We will perform songs for all people who love jazz. We are young and trying to make headway into the music industry,” he said.

Turning to their album, Behane said the much anticipated album would be out at the end of the year.
He said this was because the majority of the group was still tied up at university.

“In June we will meet and start planning on when we will release the album and which songs we are we going to include,” said Behane.
Afro-Fresh Jazz band last year scooped first prize at the Bulawayo’s Amazing Talents show final. The unheralded music outfit was founded in 2010. For winning the top prize, the youthful outfit pocketed $500.

The nine member group consists of Sanelisiwe Ntini (vocalist), Tsepo Ndlovu (vocalist), Makabongwe Ncube (saxophonist), Namati Ndlovu (lead guitarist), Blessing Guveya (pianist/vocalist), Triphine Ncube (vocalist), Emmanuel Gordon (vocalist), and Caleb Ndlovu (drummer).
