Tonight jazz fans and mature audience will have a rare treat when superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and songbird DianA Samkange serenade them at Jazz 105. With Enock Piroro on bass and Sam Mataure on drums, Tuku, as Oliver’s fans lovingly call him, is not new to such events and he knows what song to play to get lovers into the merry mood.
Now aged 61 with as many albums to his credit, music lovers will not be starved of music.
The show will also give fans an opportunity to request some of their favourite music in a cosy atmosphere with their idol. His all-time classic “Mbabvu Yangu” taken off the album “Svovi Yangu” is a favourite of many while “Wagona” from the album “Tsivo” is likely to be on the playlist.
Well, it was one of the love songs from Tuku’s yesteryear albums. Despite being an old song it still sounds great though he does not play it often during live shows.
It remains to be seen whether or not he will play “Watitsvata” or “Chiringa” which are new songs from his latest album “Sarawoga”.
Diana is also one of the most recognisable female voices in the country.
And to prove why she is the ideal choice for such an occasion, the singer will use her velvet voice to dish out her love gems like “Kumagumo Erudo” among others.
Despite her diminutive stature, her vocal ability and ingenuity makes her a cut above the rest. The weekend event will also afford revellers an opportunity to listen to her growing discography, while at the same time interacting with her fans on and off the stage.
What makes the event a special one is that Diana will have a full band, a move she made ever since she changed from urban grooves to jazz, which is music for the mature. Diana, who cut her teeth with the group 2BG, will also use this platform to do jazz renditions of some of the tracks that made the outfit famous before she went solo.
Those who had an opportunity to attend the Jazz Festival held at Jazz 105 in Harare last year can attest that her stage presence combined with her majestic moves transforms any boring occasion into an awesome event.
