Former Kingstons Holdings chief executive Brian Sedze, who is facing charges of defrauding a petroleum company of more than US$19 000 using the name of the Ministry of Finance, will stand trial on March 31. Sedze had an outstanding warrant of arrest cancelled after he failed to turn up for a routine remand hearing last Tuesday.
He said he did not wilfully default the sitting as he was in another court where he is facing a different charge.
Prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira alleges that sometime in November 2013, Sedze and his alleged accomplices – Christopher Kumisayi, who is already on remand, and another unidentified man – defrauded Redan Petroleum.
The unidentified accomplice allegedly manufactured a fake identification document in the name of Wilfred Ndlovu.
It is alleged Sedze also fabricated a fake proof of payment which purported that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development had entrusted “Ndlovu” to collect coupons worth US$19 743 from Redan.
Armed with the fake documents, it is alleged that “Ndlovu”, on November 6, got officials there to give him the coupons, which he in turn passed on to Sedze, the State says.
Sedze allegedly sold the coupons to fuel vendors who sold them to petrol attendants.
