‘Trials dangerous for DeMbare’

ONE of the things that was at the top of my to do list as I came back home from my United Kingdom base a fortnight ago was a meeting with the writer of a column that really takes no prisoners.

In my mind it was all mapped out, I would make my way to The Sunday Mail offices and ask the sports guys to direct me to Sir.I was wrong.

Apparently getting hold of Yours Truly was an impossible task with Langton Nyakwenda equating looking for the legendary Sir to looking for a spirit.“The best you can do is to write your own piece. Maybe the spirit will come and rest upon your shoulders too,” I was advised.

So here I am, writing for this widely read family newspaper as Sir’s special guest. It was good to be home after a long time away from my beloved country and getting a chance to watch my team Dynamos in action.I think I am the one who brought blessings to the team because the first game I watched was our victory over Caps United in the Uhuru Cup semi-finals.

I also witnessed the penalty shootout win over Bosso on Independence Day.Watching Dynamos in action really hurts because the club has not improved since the days I played for it, if anything things appear to be getting worse.

When people aim their guns at current coach Lloyd Mutasa I get disturbed because he has done nothing wrong, in fact he must be commended for doing his best under difficult circumstances.

With the present state of affairs, even if we bring the best coach from Europe, he will still struggle at DeMbare. The team has abandoned its once vibrant junior policy and the coach has to get players from just about everywhere.

That’s dangerous for a big team like Dynamos which has its own unique culture. One has to grow within Dynamos for him to understand and feel the Chazunguza spirit.

I hear that Dynamos conducted trials at the beginning of the season.

Trials?

Since when Dynamos kuita ma trials?During our formative years, one would develop goose bumps if he was called up to play for the reserve team because that was considered an achievement on its own.

We started off at Under 10, rising and rising until we graduated into the senior team. There was so much competition at Dynamos.

You needed to be exceptionally good and you were also required to have that heart of a lion for you to don that famous blue and white jersey.Talent alone was not enough.

But now DeMbare has become an ordinary team. The club should invest in grassroots football because there is abundant talent in the towns.

I also watched Division One football during my stay, especially Mufakose United and I can tell you we have talent that can be exported to Europe.Mufakose United have charmed me because they are a team coming out of the ghetto, fronted by young football enthusiasts Norman Chabata and Joymore Chihwayi.

I will support the team in every way I can. Before I say goodbye allow me to give you the best XI players I have come across during 25 years of Premier Soccer League action.

The XI finest

Ernest Chirambadare (Caps United, Blackpool, Dynamos), Mercedes Sibanda (Highlanders), Claudius Zviripayi (Dynamos), Methembe Ndlovu (Highlanders), Kaitano Tembo (Dynamos), Francis Shonhayi (Dynamos), Alois Bunjira (Darryn T, Caps United), Benjamin Nkonjera (Highlanders), Memory Mucherahowa (Dynamos), Vitalis Takawira (Dynamos), Tauya Murehwa (Dynamos)
