Formed in 1972, Traingle had languished in the unfashionable lower leagues until last year when they won promotion after topping the Zifa Eastern Region Division One.
Dozens of soccer followers spoken to in Chiredzi and Triangle said they were happy that they would be watching local big guns at Gibbo Stadium with their team in the mix.
In the past two years BancABC and Mbada Diamonds Holdings had brought some of their tournament matches to the Eastern Lowveld. This time around for the local soccer fan, the added incentive is that they will be able to watch their own team in action.
Pardon Mupanedengu (43) said he was happy with the team’s achievement.
“I am happy we have Premiership football. Triangle will afford us the chance to watch big clubs like Caps United, Dynamos, Motor Action and Highlanders. The wait has been too long, we have in the past seen boys like Brighton Pamhirwa, Jorum and Brighton Muchambo coming out of this club,” Mupanedengu said.
Learnmore Moyo (29) of Mufakose suburb, said he was happy that the club had been promoted.
“It was a pleasant present for the community around this area to get Premiership football. I have been a fan of the club for three years, it’s a great feeling to have won the Castle Lager PSL berth. We hope the boys will do us good and survive the heat, it’s a big leap for those trying to develop Zimbabwean football nationally,” said Moyo.
Maud Singo, a female supporter of the club, said she is confident that the team will do well in the Premiership. She praised the 2012 class that made history in the club’s 42 years by winning promotion.
“We are very happy because we are now going to watch teams like Dynamos in action at home. We support our team through and through because they made us proud,” said Singo.
Gabriel Musengi (42) who lives at one of the sections in the plantations, said he never thought that there would ever be Premiership action in Triangle. He said the team’s success was something to celebrate as generations will speak about 2012 and Triangle football success for a very long time.
“It’s pleasing what has happened for us here. We had players like Lameck Nhamo, Leo Kurauzvione, Limited Chikafa, David Sengu, William Mapfumo and Courage Denias outstanding for the team,” said Musengi.
Ester Masunda-Hove (46) said she was happy that the team was promoted.
“I am so happy that I have witnessed this promotion. Everyone here in Triangle and surrounding areas is very happy about the team’s achievement. We hope God will guide them during their campaign,” said Masunda-Hove.
A long time supporter of the club, Kaela Chauchau, said he had followed the club from 1980. The 44-year-old said he was happy for the community and prayed that the team will not be relegated. He said new faces on trial at the club would boost the club’s strength for the demanding Premiership campaign.
“The new faces at the club are a boost. The team will stay in the Castle Lager Premiership and we have had a number of good players like Ernest Mutano, Givemore Nyahuma, Douglas Masamba, Willard Manyatera and Nelson Maziwisa coming from Triangle onto the national soccer scene from the 1980s to this date,” said Chauchau.
