(Triangle won 5-3 on penalties)
TRIANGLE are through to the final of the NetOne bankrolled One Wallet Cup after defeating Chicken Inn 5-3 on penalties in a semi-final contest played at Mandava Stadium here yesterday.
Biggie Zuze, the Triangle coach should thank his penalty takers for the accuracy they showed in taking their spot kicks after his team had missed numerous goal-scoring opportunities which came their way during regulation time.
Triangle converted all their penalty kicks while Chicken Inn scored three out of four with the fifth rendered inconsequential.
Triangle will now meet the winner of today’s semi-final match pitting Dynamos against How Mine at the same venue.
Goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu, Tinei Chitora, Praise Tonha, Tichaona Chipunza, Nelson Menson were on target from the spot for Triangle while for Chicken Inn their skipper Danny Phiri, George Majika and John Bernard converted while Brian Mbiriri missed the target despite sending Mudimu the wrong way.
The match itself was characterised by missed goal scoring opportunities especially by Triangle.
Chitora had his effort blocked out for a corner after being sent through by Tonha with 13 minutes played. Two minutes later, Nhamo Lameck’s cross from the left was missed by two of his teammates in the box.
Chicken Inn had a chance to score with Phiri shooting wide in the 18th minute.
Phiri wasted another glorious scoring chance, guiding his shot over the bar from outside the box after doing well to bring the ball down and hitting it on the bounce.
Tonha continued to trouble Chicken Inn, his free kick from outside the box going wide six minutes into the second half.
On the other end, Clemence Matawu unbelievably shot over the bar from a superb cross on the right by Thabani Goredema.
Tonha fluffed another chance to put his side ahead in the 67th minute, shooting wide from a brilliant cross delivered from the right by Chitora.
Lameck, saw his brilliant shot from outside the box go wide off the posts two minutes before the end.
