FOUR South African schools will be part of this year’s edition of the CABS bankrolled Twenty20 schools cricket tournament at Saint George’s College in Harare which gets under way on Friday.
Saint Albans from Pretoria, Parktown Boys High School of Johannesburg, Saint Andrews from Grahamstown and Saint Benedicts of Johannesburg have all confirmed participation.
Last year, the four entered the event.
The four will join eight local teams who include defending champions Peterhouse, last year’s losing finalists St Johns, Churchill, Hellenic, Prince Edward, Falcon College, Christian Brothers College and the host school for the tournament which runs from Friday to Sunday.
Mini McDonald, the St George’s College sports director said St Benedicts are already in Zimbabwe with other schools expected this week while practice matches are lined up before the start of the Twenty20 tournament. McDonald emphasised that as the organisers of the tournament, they would like to make a great impression as they had a better team than they had last year.
In its eleventh year now, the tournament continues to attract the best cricket schools in the country. Churchill and Peterhouse have dominated most editions of the tournament.
The Marondera-based Peterhouse successfully defended their title last year with a five run triumph over St Johns College in the final.
