and “Masiziva” in Harare at the weekend.
The launch saw the who’s who of urban grooves including appearances by Cindy, Alexio, Leonard Mapfumo and Ngoni Kambarami, among many others.
Asked why he opted to release two albums instead of one, Trinta said the two albums were meant to cater for both local and international markets.
“Naturally Higher” is a wholly English album while the majority of tracks on “Masiziva” are done in Shona.
Trinta, real name Freddy Mazivanjira’s, has roped in the talents of Buffalo Souljah, another prominent South-Africa-based Zimbabwean dancehall artiste.
He describes both albums as a “blend of dancehall sounds.”
With mellower sounds also found on tracks such as “Masiziva” and “Take My Hand” featuring the silky vocals of Teererai Mugwadi one needs to listen to the music to appreciate how Trinta has grown musically.
“These are melodious dancehall and reggae vibes that contain a positive message to the youths and society at large,” the dreadlocked emcee said.
He, however, castigated dancehall artists who promote immorality through glorifying drugs, promiscuity and violence.
“We nah need nah slackness, the youths must know God and be encouraged to live positive lifestyles,” Trinta said
He has already enjoyed international exposure through his links with DJ Waxxy, the Channel O DJ who’s been recognised as the continent’s number one DJ.
Alongside P-Square and other African musical heavyweights, Trinta’s “Naturally Higher” track, features on one of Waxxy’s popular compilation albums.
Given stiff competition within the genre from established artists like Winky D and Sniper Storm, as well as many more chanters like Guspy Warrior and Jiggaz, Trinta says he relishes the opportunity to take his uniquely positive message to the Zimbabwean youths.
“I’m feeling up to the task, in Jamaica the home of dancehall, the scene is way more congested but this has only served to improve MCs as they are forced to step up their game,” he said.
