Trio caught selling stolen herbicides

of theft of 6x50kgs of Compound C fertiliser, 9x12mm bore rounds for a shotgun, pesticides and herbicides at Nyamanda Farm in Karoi led to the recovery of an assortment of pesticides and herbicides stashed in a bush about 100 metres from the storeroom.

However, police later received information on Tuesday last week that Bernard Karumbwana (29) and Wellington Banda (30) were selling chemicals that were similar to those stolen from the farm in Karoi.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident adding that the two were quizzed leading to the recovery of some of the chemicals, 7×12 bore rounds of ammunition and an iron bar, among other things.

“We have arrested three people in connection with theft of herbicides at Nyamanda Farm in Karoi and our investigations are continuing,” he said.

During the investigations, detectives also established that Damson Aporunari (25) who works at the farm, had stolen the 6x50kg bags of tobacco Compound C fertiliser.

He led police to several people in Karoi town to whom he had sold the bags of fertiliser.
Investigations also discovered that Aporunari had included the bags of fertiliser he had stolen on the list of items that had been stolen during the break in to cover his tracks.
The three are held at Karoi Police Station where they are expected to appear in court soon to answer theft charges.
