Trynos Ndlovu (36), of House Number 7949 Pumula North, Alfred Moyo (29), of Number 11 Princess Road, Richmond and Melody Maseko (28), of Kombo area in Shangani, pleaded not guilty to stocktheft but were convicted by Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mr Maphios Willard Moyo, sitting at the Western Commonage magistrates’ courts.
Each had two years of their sentence suspended for five years on condition that they are not within that period convicted of a similar offence.
Ms Sibekithemba Dube, for the State, proved that in the early hours of 9 February this year, the trio proceeded to Plot 31, Wodendale, Umguza.
Maseko was armed with a knife and an axe and on arrival at the plot they stole a cow and a bull.
They drove the beasts for about 8km and when they got to the Rangemore area, they drove the beasts into wire snares.
Once trapped, the trio then axed the beasts before proceeding to remove the offals and cutting the unskinned meat into smaller pieces.
Ndlovu then called a taxi driver and they loaded the meat leaving behind the offals and the heads at the scene.
The meat was dropped off at House Number 7049 Nkulumane and the trio remained behind skinning the meat pieces.
When the police raided the house after a tip-off from members of the public, Ndlovu had sold meat worth $20 and R60.
