THREE men have been jailed after they were found in possession of Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) cables.
Themba Matarirano (40) and Learnmore Dzirabwi (20) were each jailed 10 years in prison.
Levison Mukata (42) was jailed nine years.
The charges stem from an incident on January 30 this year when two of the men were stopped by police, while riding a bus, on their way from Masvingo to Harare.
A search of the bus uncovered sacks of copper conductors which belonged to Matarirano and Dzirabwi.
When questioned, Matarirano and Dzirabwi failed to produce any documents authorising them to possess the 276.5 kg of copper cables.
They were arrested and charged with contravening the Electricity Act.
A Chivhu magistrate found the two men guilty and sentenced them each to 10 years in prison
Levison Mukata (42) was convicted at the Harare Magistrates Court.
On April 24, at around 2am, Mukata and his accomplice, who is still at large, raided a ZESA substation in Glen View 3 and stole a 9m x 185mm x 4 core ZESA armoured cable.
The police received a tip-off and arrested Mukata while his colleague managed to escape.
