A HARARE trio appeared in court facing theft charges after allegedly duping Bhola Hardware of US$12 000.
The three — Fungai Chikonyora, Chakanetsa Chikonyora and Lewis Chichera — appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
The court heard that Fungai was an agent for Bhola Hardware, responsible for doing various transactions, as assigned by the entity.
The company contacted him and informed him it wanted to pay customs clearance duty for its cellphones at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. He was given bank account details to deposit cash for customs duty. Fungai went to Bhola Hardware and was given US$12 107 for the payment of customs duty.
It is alleged he connived with his accomplices and one, Justin Mahuni, who is at large, and converted the money to their own use.
Fungai allegedly told Bhola Hardware that he had paid the customs duty but it was later discovered that he hadn’t, leading to his arrest.
Upon his arrest, Fungai implicated his accomplices as the people he had shared the money with.
