A RUSAPE couple blessed with triplets last week is appealing for financial and material assistance to care for their new arrivals and growing family.
The 42-year-old Ms Feresia Gwasira, of Matanhire Village under Chief Chiduku gave birth to the triplets at Rusape General Hospital through normal delivery. The mother and her three babies were discharged on Tuesday this week.
Ms Gwasira now has nine children with her husband, Mr Xmas Tongana.
Ms Gwasira said her joy at receiving the triplets is being overshadowed by financial hardship, as they cannot afford enough clothes, food and other requirements needed to properly look after the babies — two boys and a girl.
“I gave birth to triplets last week through the normal delivery way. There are two boys and a girl. I now have nine children. I am very happy to give birth to triplets. I am appealing for assistance so that I buy food and clothes for my children. For survival, I do piece works in other people’s fields during summer time and with three new babies I will not manage. My husband is also unemployed and survives through menial jobs in the village. We have two huts at our homestead were we stay as five family members.
With the coming of these triplets it means we will be overcrowded in those two huts. My six-year-old child who is supposed to be attending crèche, is not because we could not raise the fees,” said Ms Gwasira.
Mr Tongana (44), said he is not financially stable to care for the new additions to his family, adding that they had only prepared for one child.
“I am elated that my wife gave birth to triplets. We were not expecting it and had just prepared for one baby. The blessing has however brought some challenges for us. We are not financially able look after these triplets because we have been struggling with six children already. Right now (Tuesday afternoon) I am struggling to raise US$16 for the medication that is required for my wife and babies to be discharged. I will also require funds for transport for check-ups for the babies,” said Mr Tongana.
