A US$50 000 offer by businessman Scott Sakupwanya, to help rescue young people trapped in the dark web of drug abuse and early pregnancy, has been hailed by an organisation which supports youths.

Teen Rescue Mission (TRM), whose objective is to help youths in their fight against drugs and also empower themselves with skills, say the offer is a game-changer for them.

The offer was made during a fundraising dinner over the weekend held under the theme: ‘Prioritising And Supporting Youths’ Development.’

“It’s our duty to safeguard our young generation,” said Abraham Matuka, the organisation’s founder and director.

“Let’s stand together and, as TRM, we need your support to run the programmes on awareness as we plan to reach all areas in our nation.

“The event got a lot of support as the cause was of a significant value.

“The young people, who are the future generation, were what drove Sakupwanya to donate towards the cause.”

The event was also attended by businessman, Shingai Mutasa, who spoke passionately about how drugs are destroying the youths.

“They (the people bringing the drugs) are killing our children and we need to speak with one voice to say ‘No To Drugs.’

“But I see light when we see young people here who stood speaking against drugs. I see Zimbabwe having a bright future,” said Mutasa.

Teen Rescue Mission was established in 2017 with the aim of fighting against drug and substance abuse, early pregnancy and crime among the youths.

It has managed to save more than 500 youths from drugs by facilitating for them to do life-skill courses.
