A TRUCK driver who was destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo died after his vehicle overturned while negotiating the deadly Marongora escarpment between Makuti and Chirundu Border Post.

The truck driver, identified as Allen Chisango of Cross-Country Containers, lost control of his vehicle after the tyres of his truck started binding resulting in the accident.

This was despite the vehicle having been assessed earlier at the company’s depot in Harare before the trip.

Two weeks ago, another accident involving a Zambia-bound bus occurred near the same spot.

Workmates and fellow truck drivers shared the sad news of Chisango’s demise on Facebook.

Concerns about the road’s bad state were raised.

Meanwhile, the Government is working to ensure that the road is widened and rehabilitated.

Currently, Bitumen World Zimbabwe has been contracted to rehabilitate the road through funding from the Japanese Government.
