Trust to restore faith in housing co-ops

Bus5Business Reporter
PURE Gold Housing Trust has pledged to develop Caledonia Farm, near Mabvuku and Tafara, in a transparent manner as it seeks to restore faith in co-operatives.The initiative comes when many have lost faith in housing co-operatives due to widespread underhand dealings by bogus co-operatives that have been swindling members of their hard-earned cash and failing to deliver on promises.

Speaking during the handover ceremony for three cottages to underprivileged families that are members of the trust, founder Bishop Benjamin Murata pledged to develop Caledonia into a respectable residential area.

“We understand that the concept of co-operatives has been soiled by legacy issues with committees leading some co-operatives, both legitimate and illegitimate, have been caught on the wrong side of the law after duping members of their hard-earned cash.

“We want to address these negatives through delivering houses to all our members in a transparent and accountable manner. Our main goal is to improve the lives of our members,” said Bishop Murata.

He added that some co-operatives at Caledonia Farm were taking advantage of low- income earners who are desperate to own houses.
“As Pure Gold we are saying enough is enough: this practice has to come to an end, co-operatives have to start delivering on their promises,” he said.

Newly elected Zanu-PF councillor for Caledonia Mr Dereck Marisandi assured the people of his ward of his support saying he was prepared to see development and the uplifting of people in line with party’s manifesto which saw his party cruising to a resounding victory in the just ended harmonised elections.

“As the new councillor for this ward I want to assure you (Caledonia residents) of my support in the development of the ward and upliftment of the people I am leading.

“As we (Zanu-PF) promised in our manifesto we want to ensure that you become owners of the country’s resources,” he said.
The Caledonia councillor went on to warn co-operatives that he was going to be ruthless when dealing with unscrupulous housing co-operatives.

He said such co-operatives will face the full wrath of the law.
“We have seen some co-operatives duping stand owners of their hard-earned cash promising to build houses but doing nothing after having collected a lot of money.

“Development should come first and those co-operatives executives or committees that thrive on stealing from their members should face the music regardless of the party that they belong to,” said Mr Marisandi.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Keriza Njani, who was elated after she received her cottage, said the house was a God-sent gift.
“I would like to thank Pure Gold Housing Trust for this wonderful gesture. I never thought that I would own a three-roomed house,” she said.

Pure Gold Housing Trust has already drilled 15 boreholes and constructed a wide road from Old Tafara.
