Dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu’s musical instruments were on Monday confiscated after he failed to pay $300 to a local transport company that ferried the equipment to Guruve and Rushinga for shows.
A manager of the transport company, who only identified himself as Brian, confirmed the development saying they had no option but to take the instruments.
“We took his instruments after they failed to pay us. We carried the instruments to the shows without getting paid hoping they would pay after the shows.
“They failed to pay and we took the instruments,” he said.
Sources close to the development said Chimbetu had told them that he would pay the money upon their return to Harare but the musician failed to fulfil his promise.
Chimbetu’s manager Simba Mahenga confirmed the incident saying they failed to settle the debt because promoters of the shows have not yet paid up their performance fees in full.
“It’s only that promoters have not yet paid us our balances for performance fees but we are working on something to get our instruments back,” said Mahenga.
Asked if it will not affect their shows lined up for Masvingo and Extra Mile Leisure Sport on Sunday he said they would ensure they get the instruments before the show to ensure a smooth continuation of their operations.
