AFRO-FUSION star Feli Nandi has found herself at the centre of a heated social media debate after a video of her dancing to one of Jiti musician, Baba Harare’s unreleased suggestive tracks, went viral, dividing opinion among fans.
The video, which was shared on social media, shows the award-winning singer dancing energetically to the song which fans have named Tsa Tsa Tsa, because of its lyrics, during what appeared to be a light-hearted moment with friends. While some social media users criticised her dance moves, arguing they were inconsistent with the public image they associate with the artiste, others defended her right to express herself and enjoy her private life.
As the clip gained traction online, many fans took to social media to share their reactions.
“I used to respect Feli but ha, after that dance, I’m ashamed,” wrote one social media user.
However, the criticism was met with an equally strong defence from others who argued that the singer should not be judged for enjoying herself outside of her professional performances.
Among those who came to her defence were radio personalities Noxy and Simba. The duo questioned why the video had attracted such intense scrutiny, arguing that celebrities should be afforded the same freedoms as everyone else.
“I feel that people have an image of who she is and now they have been heartbroken by seeing that she is not who they think she is. Can’t a girl just enjoy herself and dance with her friends?” said Noxy.
Simba echoed the sentiment, urging fans to separate the artiste’s personal moments from her professional career.
“Let her live her life and let her enjoy herself in the manner that she wants to. What is it taking away from your table when you see Feli behaving in that way? Let her dance and let her have fun,” he said.
The incident has sparked wider conversations online about the expectations placed on public figures, particularly female artistes, and whether fans sometimes impose unrealistic standards on celebrities’ personal lives.
As if seeking to shift the conversation, Feli Nandi returned to social media a day later with another video of herself dancing to the same song. This time, however, she appeared in the elegant attire that fans have come to associate with her, a move many interpreted as an attempt to reaffirm the image that has endeared her to her followers.
