FOOTBALL coach, Cosmas Zulu has expressed deep sadness at the loss of former President Robert Mugabe and recalled the time his dream came true when he met the then President at State House in 2016.

Tsano, as Zulu is affectionately known, had a once in a lifetime chance to meet Mugabe when Benjani Mwaruwari invited several international and local football stars to play in his testimonial match in 2012. He revealed he will always cherish that moment as it was something he was looking forward to.

“I had always wanted to meet the former President because I had been inspired by his principled stand on various issues. I learnt and valued the principles of integrity, honesty, respect and accountability from the icon. I will always remember him for his discipline when it came to the foods he partook, his elegance in dress and eloquence in speech,” said Zulu.

The Ngezi Platinum assistant coach said he has come to treasure the DVD that contains the meeting at State House.

In the video Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda is introducing the local legends to President Mugabe and when it was Tsano’s turn, the former Highlanders coach declares that he had been waiting for 62 years for that moment to happen.

Tsano’s jovial statement elicited laughter and a round of applause from others present while forcing Mugabe to give him a hug; when the former president had only given handshakes to other legends he had been introduced to.

Zulu couldn’t hide his joy at the meeting adding “ndafara zvakaipa” to show how happy he was to meet the President. Later as they took a group photo, Tsano, sitting next to Mugabe revealed he would die in contentment after the meeting.
