Accident victims at Mutare Provincial Hospital commemorated the belated World Day for Remembrance for Road Accident last Saturday with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe giving them fruit and sundry hampers.
Globally, every third Sunday of November has been adopted by the United Nations as a World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident victims.
The TSCZ co-ordinated a belated commemoration of road traffic accident victims on the 28th of November by visiting road accident victims who are currently admitted at Mutare Provincial Hospital.
Gracing the event were the Regional Manager of the TSCZ, Mrs Georgina Mateta, the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe Regional Officer, Mr Barnabas Masamvu, Provincial chairman of Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, Reverand Rore, Apostle Manyange.
According to Mrs Mateta, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accident Victims offers annual opportunity to increase public awareness of the burden of road traffic collisions on communities, families and individuals.
“This emphasizes the need to initiate and promote efforts to control this major public health and development problem and to assist victims.
“There is need for a more resolute and relentlessly campaign for road safety.
“We need to play our part in taming the traffic jungle in Zimbabwe to save thousand lives and road users should be more careful when driving,” said Mrs Mateta.
She also added that road accidents were not a pleasant thing as they bring a lot of misery to the communities and should be avoided through adhering to road safety rules.
