Tshabalala named new Chiefs captain

KAIZER CHIEFS have confirmed that veteran winger Siphiwe Tshabalala will captain the team this season. The club made the announcement via their Twitter feed yesterday and he will take over from goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who left the team at the end of last season.

Tshabalala will head a Captain’s Committee: made up of Siboniso Gaxa, Willard Katsande, Morgan Gould, Tsepo Masilela, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and youngster Lorenzo Gordinho.

His first time wearing the armband is likely to be in Saturday’s Carling Black Label Cup fixture against Orlando Pirates.

Tshabalala is also a former skipper of the national team under Pitso Mosimane, leading the side in five games in 2011 and 2012.

‘Shabba’ is entering his eighth full season with Chiefs and following the exit of Khune, is now the longest-serving member of the squad having joined the side in 2007. — SuperSport
