THE Tsholotsho community will this morning meet at the rural district council boardroom to come up with fundraising ideas for the construction of a sports stadium to house a football pitch.
Senior Tsholotsho Rural District Council officials said delegates would be drawn from different sectors in and around the district as the council begins its first step in constructing a stadium that will also have a standard athletics track.
This comes after the promotion of Tsholotsho FC into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and shows the power that football holds in developing communities.
The officials said a number of key people that included business persons, politicians, community leaders and the media had been invited.
Comment could not be obtained from Tsholotsho Rural District Council chief executive officer Themba Moyo as he was said to be out of office on business yesterday.
Land for the stadium has reportedly been identified.
Tsholotsho is rich in timber and it is expected that some of the companies harvesting there will exercise their corporate social responsibility by being actively involved in the construction of the stadium, likely to be named after the late Vice President Landa John Nkomo.
Besides the benefits of watching top flight football action, Tsholotsho FC’s promotion will also have other downstream benefits as the centre will need decent accommodation, supermarkets and banks.
Tsholotsho is awaiting town status conferment by the government.
