TSHOLOTSHO District Administrator, Nosizi Dube, has been fired for allegedly embezzling more than $10,000 in government funds over a two-year period.

A source said Dube was sacked by the Ministry of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservations of National Culture and Heritage for fraud, abuse of office and mismanagement. Dube started serving as DA in Tsholotsho District in 2012 following her transfer from Nkayi.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs, Cde Cain Mathema, said he could not say much on the matter as the relevant office in Dube’s Ministry was dealing with the case. “I really can’t say anything because I would end up lying. The case is being dealt with within the relevant office and so I can’t say much,” said Cde Mathema.

The Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Rural development, Promotion and Preservations of National Culture and Heritage, Thokozile Chitepo, said she couldn’t comment as she was not aware of the case.

Dube answered her phone when reached by The Chronicle but when questions were posed to her, she remained quiet.

By last night, she had not responded to a message sent to her via WhatsApp.

Sources said allegations are that Dube squandered money that was meant for chiefs’ fuel and had also made false claims on Transport and Subsistence (T&S) allowances.

“Dube also failed to account for about $5,000 meant for the renovation of her house that she had requested. Fake receipts for the work done were discovered, pinning some members of staff from public works,” said an accountant in the Ministry.

“Witnesses in her office said she even diverted donations for the district worth more than $3,000 to her own use.”
