A 21-year-old man from Tsholotsho has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison by the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of raping a 20-year-old woman three times.
The court heard that on August 21, 2026, at around 11 PM, the victim was asleep in her bedroom when the offender entered the room through an unlocked door.
He allegedly switched off the lights before approaching her bed and touching her without her consent. When the woman woke up and attempted to resist, he overpowered her and raped her.
The offender sexually assaulted the victim twice more that night, with the third assault occurring at around 4 AM on August 22.
He left the homestead shortly afterwards, while the victim fled the premises at around 6 AM and reported the incident to the local village head, leading to his arrest.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reiterated that rape is a serious criminal offence that can leave victims with lifelong physical and psychological trauma.
The authority warned potential offenders that perpetrators of sexual violence would face the full force of the law.
