THREE road authorities, in collaboration with Tsholotsho South legislator, Cde Musa Ncube and other private players, have initiated a project to resurface the 60km Tsholotsho-Tshefunye Road.
So far, they have resurfaced a 20km stretch from Tsholotsho Business Centre.
Government has also embarked on the rehabilitation of the 115km Bulawayo-Nyamandlovu-Tsholotsho Road.
Cde Ncube, who is also the Deputy Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, mobilised the stakeholders that are undertaking the rehabilitation of the Tsholotsho-Tshefunye Road.
The project has also created employment for local youths.
“We engaged the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development as the owners of the road, Rural Infrastructural Development Agency (Rida) came in with the expertise while Tsholotsho Rural District Council provided the grader and driver. The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is also part of this project,” said Dep Minister Ncube.

She said they are also getting support from the local business community as well as the Tsholotsho community in the diaspora.
“It should not be left to Government alone to improve our communities, a position, which the President has made very clear through his philosophy that ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo and as Tsholotsho we want to complement Government efforts,” said Dep Minister Ncube.
She said they were optimistic that the rehabilitation works would be completed before the end of next month.
“Work briefly stopped following the breakdown of the grader but it has been attended to following the intervention of another Tsholotsho son, Cde Jabulani Nkomo, the son of the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo. Operations will now resume,” said Dep Minister Ncube.
Chief Gampu said the rehabilitation of the Tsholotsho-Tshefunye Road will result in positive development in the district.
“No place can adequately develop without proper roads, investors think twice about coming to the area when the road is in a bad state. I am excited with this development” he said.
The rehabilitation of infrastructure is in line with the country’s economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
Under the Infrastructure, Utilities and Digital Economy cluster, the NDS1 prioritises the completion of road rehabilitation projects. The main aspirations of NDS1 include infrastructural development as a key enabler in attaining Vision 2030 of having an upper middle-income economy.
