AFTER suffering a career-ending injury, Leonard Tsipa is now trying his hand at coaching and has enrolled for a coaching course with ZIFA.
Tsipa, who has not kicked the ball this season following a serious knee injury, which he suffered at training that also ended his hopes of a move to Tanzania, is part of the 109 participants at Oriel Boys High.
ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa yesterday officially opened the course.
The course is being conducted by FIFA and CAF instructors Nelson Matongorere and Gibson Homela and has several former players, who include Eddie Mashiri, Elton Chimedza, Kelvin Mushangazhike, Itai Gwandu, Daniel Kamunenga and Tafadzwa Mombeshora, among others.
Tsipa, who is now helping the CAPS United coaching staff by training strikers at the club, is happy to start his new journey.
Club president Farai Jere encouraged Tsipa to go to school.
“I am so into soccer and I saw it necessary to be part of this course, which if I complete I will be well equipped to take up coaching,’’ said Tsipa.
Chiyangwa said they were happy with the big turnout and said the courses were generating a lot of interest.
“The Technical Development Committee should be applauded for the large number of courses it has conducted countrywide and the interest the courses are generating.
“ZIFA will support you in our thrust to bring development and we feel you are in the right path when former footballers come on board to support the greater football development cause.
“In the past, very few primary and secondary schools participated, but this programme today has seen a high number of former players taking part,” said Chiyangwa.
