AN aspiring MDC-T legislator Kidwell Mujuru, 44, has defected to Zanu-PF together with hundreds of his supporters after describing the opposition party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai as a failure.Mujuru, who is also a businessman said the abuse of power and tribalism was the order of the day in the MDC-T.
Mujuru once contested MDC-T primaries for Luveve constituency but he claims he lost to a cheating Reggie Moyo who allegedly stole ballot boxes after the internal elections.
“I have since joined Zanu-PF because it is a party made up of serious and focused politicians who have the people’s interests at heart.
I submitted my name last Tuesday and I know that the 800 people who voted for me during the primaries will move with me as we join the revolutionary party,” said Mujuru.
He said he had been patient with the failing MDC-T leadership who at one time told him that he could never make it as a Member of Parliament in Bulawayo because he was Shona.
“I tried raising my concerns and was later suspended after attending a meeting in Harare,” said Mujuru
He said the MDC-T leaders were masquerading as promoters of democracy yet they failed to respect and consider the views of ordinary members.
Tsvangirai, Mujuru said, lacked the capacity to rule Zimbabwe. He described President Mugabe as a principled leader who had brought only good to Zimbabweans.
“Morgan Tsvangirai has failed the people of Zimbabwe and I finally admit that he is incapable of ruling this country. MDC-T is failing and Tsvangirai has no one to blame but himself,” he said.
Mujuru said his defection was also motivated by the fact that Zanu-PF respects and rewards people who work hard at every level.
“MDC-T is now run by rich strangers who never invested their time and resources towards the development of the party. People like Gift Banda came from nowhere to being deputy mayor and there are many people who fraudulently rose to top leadership positions in MDC-T,” he said.
Mujuru said he would continue working hard to address the needs of residents of Luveve as he was confident he still had a future in politics.
“I’m hopeful that come 2018 elections, I will be elected to be a Zanu-PF candidate for my constituency. I would like to promise that I will work hard to make sure Zanu-PF wins the Luveve seat,” said Mujuru.
