Tsvangirai preaches violence

Addressing a rally at Mucheke Stadium yesterday, Mr Tsvangirai told his supporters to fight their political opponents.
“Munoda kuti ndimire ndoga imi makapeta maoko? Ini kana ndiri ndoga hapana chandinokwanisa kuita. Tinofanira kubatsirana.

“We must mobilise and fight against any person who would want to mete violence on us. I urge you to mobilise and to be prepared to fight anyone, irrespective of who that person is,” he said.
This is not the first time Mr Tsvangirai, who is Prime Minister in the inclusive Government, has openly preached violence at his rallies as he shocked many during MDC’s first anniversary celebrations at Rufaro Stadium in September 2000 when he threatened to violently unseat President Mugabe.

Mr Tsvangirai’s penchant for violence was one of the reasons cited for the break-up of MDC on October 12 2005.
President Mugabe is on record calling on fellow principals to the Global Political Agreement to organise high-level seatings of the leadership of their parties to send a message to the grassroots that it is possible to differ amicably.

MDC-T VIOLENCE

The MDC-T leader, whose party has been calling for a postponement of elections, accused Zanu-PF of stalling elections fearing defeat.
He also reiterated that the inclusive Government had failed to work in the past months owing to “growing discord” among the three political parties.
Mr Tsvangirai further said no political party should contest election results in future.

“On elections we are saying that no one should contest election results and I am sure that it is not the MDC-T that will lose the next elections,” he said.
He took a swipe at the ministries of Media, Information and Publicity, Justice and Legal Affairs and Home Affairs claiming the three ministries posed a threat to the functions of the inclusive Government.
“Their operations have not been pleasing at all. The Ministry of Media has been superintending over continuing hate speech in the public media while the Justice Ministry has also been disappointing, especially with regards to the Attorney-General Johannes Tomana who I must say is a square peg in a round hole as he has been arresting ministers, when he should be the one protecting them,” he said.

On civil servants’ salaries, Mr Tsvangirai said although Government coffers were dry, civil servants would get their increments.
MDC-T supporters have been identified in many politically-motivated violent cases.

Last month, MDC-T supporters fatally assaulted a police officer as he tried to disperse a crowd that had converged at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre.
Police have also blamed MDC-T for the violence that has been perpetrated in many centres in Harare.
