Tsvangirai’s remarks reckless: Ex-fighter

Liberation Front member has said.

In an interview with our Bulawayo Bureau, Mr Max Mkandla blasted MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s call for security chiefs to resign and contest for political power.
“As a former freedom fighter, I know the importance of State security. Service chiefs and those under their command are there to protect the country from external and internal enemies and therefore nobody should be allowed to destabilise State security institutions,” said Mr Mkandla, an ex-Zipra fighter.

He described Mr Tsvangirai’s remarks as reckless adding that he did not expect such remarks from a person who aspired to rule this country. He said as an aspiring leader, Mr Tsvangirai should know better.
“If he is clever enough he should not contest in the next election but should recommend someone from his party because no one would vote for him.

MORGAN TSVANGIRAI

“He has disqualified himself as a national leader and would rather contest at provincial level. He should be groomed in politics first and get advisers who would build him up instead of destroying him.
“As it is he is tarnishing the image of State security institutions and that should not be allowed to continue,” Mr Mkandla said.

He also described Mr Tsvangirai as an immature and dangerous leader who should not be voted into power by any sober minded Zimbabwean.
“The fact that Mr Tsvangirai is threatening everyone including war vets, service chiefs and the President should ring the bell to the people of Zimbabwe. He has shown his true colours. He is committing political suicide.

He has no future in politics. There is no guarantee that if he is elected into power he would not hand over the country to our former colonisers,” Mr Mkandla said.
He also took a swipe at some non-governmental organisations and Western countries that continue to fund the MDC-T, saying they were fuelling tensions among Zimbabweans.

“We know the organisations that are funding the MDC-T and the Western countries that sponsor them. They have ulterior motives to destroy our country and that is why Mr Tsvangirai is doing this,” said Mr Mkandla.
He said as an organisation they were not happy with US Ambassador Charles Ray’s comments about the country’s State security.

“He has no right to undermine Zimbabwe’s security agents and should be punished for that. He should know that Zimbabwe’s independence did not come on a silver platter,” Mr Mkandla said.

Brigadier-General Douglas Nyikayaramba scoffed at Mr Tsvangirai’s challenge saying he was a national security threat and as such the security forces would continue to be involved in politics while still serving to safeguard the country’s national interests.
