A Tendy Three Investment (TTI) marshal, who was seen in a video being violently punched and shoved by a City Bus employee in Bulawayo, is demanding US$40 000 from the City Bus bouncer — Samuel Scotfield Matanda — for assaulting him and causing humiliation after the video went viral.
Michael Ntini is represented by his lawyer, Doctor Tanaka Muganyi of Tanaka Law Chambers, while Matanda is represented by Kelvin Dhewa of Liberty Mcijo and Associates.
In a letter of demand seen by Zimpapers, Doctor Muganyi said: “Our client indicates that he suffered severe injuries as a result of the assault and he greatly suffered public humiliation as a result of your actions. The humiliation worsened when the video was circulated on social media platforms.”
The letter of demand states that Ntini is a family man who has a social status and a constitutional right to dignity.
“You negatively affected and violated all his known rights. You reduced him in front of his family, you diminished his societal standing and he is now an embarrassed, disgraced man,” reads the letter.
Ntini, through his lawyer, further states that Matanda committed the offence while he was on duty at Wipeco Investments t/a City Bus. Ntini is demanding an apology, plus US$40 000
“Our client is demanding US$40 000 and has instructed us to demand from yourself and your employer that you do the following: issue a public apology via The Chronicle and a public apology through the use of a recorded video which you will circulate online for the public.
Your employer must put up an article in the press indicating that it does not condone your behaviour — for a period of three months,” said Doctor Muganyi.
