Musician Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi was presented with the Global Service Award by the Skagit Valley College in the United States of America for his contribution to children’s rights.
The award was presented to him early this month during his tour of the United States.
Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure told a Japanese magazine Music Magazine that they were ecstatic about the award.
“It shows how the global market continues to gain confidence in the super star,” he said.
The award trophy is inscribed: “Skagit Valley College Globalfest 2014. Global Service Award, January 2014. Presented to Oliver Mtukudzi for his tireless devotion as a champion for the rights of the children in Africa.”
Tuku also made headlines earlier this year when his album ‘Sarawoga’ was selected as one of the best world music albums for 2013 by the same magazine.
The musician has many awards that he got in his lengthy career.
His album “Sarawoga” is currently riding high on both local and international market.
Meanwhile the musician will next month share the stage with dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu in the United Kingdom.
Dubbed “The Greatest Hits Tour” the tour is being organised by Y2K a promoter based in the same country.
Chimbetu’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma said they were happy to be sharing the stage with the musician who continues to shine on the global market.
“We are happy to be on his shoulders as he continues to raise the Zimbabwean flag high and we are looking forward to a great show,” said Nyamungoma.
Suluman has been duped by bogus promoters in some of his previous attempts to visit the country and hopes the upcoming tour will be flawless.
