Tuku, Tryson face off

outing has something refreshingly new to enjoy. At 60, there is no doubt, Tuku has been there and done that.
Particularly interesting about his shows is that fans always get this indescribable feeling of satisfaction. And because of this, fans seem not to get enough of him and as is always the case his performances become the talk long after the thrill is gone.
For this reason, most of his fans will descend on Megga 1 which is arguably one of the biggest venues in Harare to sing along to Tuku Music, a legend of our time.
Currently rocking the airwaves with his chart topper “Watitsvata”, often mistakenly referred to as “Shamiso” by uninformed fans, the track is as addictive as it is enjoyable. It has got that feel of golden oldie and yet Tuku made it sound so fresh.
Comprising Enoch Piroro on bass, Sam Mataure on drums and the man himself Tuku on acoustic guitar, the Black Spirits often give fans an unforgettable outing.
To top that, fans will be spoilt for choice from Tuku’s long list of discography. There are a number of hits that Tuku does not always play at live gigs unless its by request especially when he performs as a solo or quartet, such songs you only get to hear them at this time of the month when lovers celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Do you remember “Mbabvu Yangu” off the album “Svovi Yangu”, “Wagona” on the album “Tsivo” or “Sugar Pie” taken off his 25th anniversary compilation?
Well, the list is endless, but there is no need to speculate as Tuku will be there to unleash his numbers just the way you like it.
There has been so much debate as to who sings better between Suluman “Sean Timba” Chimbetu and Tryson Chimbetu.
Quite honestly, Tryson is a little ahead of Suluman vocally that is although he lacks the swag which is a plus for “Sean Timba”.
The temptation to compare the two musicians has always been necessitated by the fact that they sing the same songs and they come from the same family.
However, the debate should not overshadow the fact that “Sean Timba” and Tryson are part of the dendera lineage, in other words it is more of the same.
So as Tryson takes to the stage expect nothing short of fireworks spiced by some serious dance and music. Like Tuku always says: “This is a joint show and nobody is curtain-raising for the other”.
