Turkish doctors in US$300k mission

A group of doctors from Turkey is in the country on a humanitarian mission targeting underprivileged communities.

The doctors representing Turkish World Foundation for Circumcision, are drilling solar-powered boreholes and distributing food worth over US$300 000.

Turkey Charge de Affairs in Zimbabwe Mr Can Bilgic said they were also targeting Cyclone Idai- stricken communities, especially in providing them with solar-powered boreholes.

“We are arranging to drill solar-powered boreholes countrywide as well as in Cyclone Idai- affected areas and in September we are going to deliver wheelchairs as well,” he said.

Apart from Harare and Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central and Masvingo are expected to benefit from the mission.

Over the past decade, Mr Bilgic said, the charity has visited African countries such as Tanzania, Sudan and South Sudan.

In Zimbabwe, the project is also being conducted in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs.

President of the Turkish World Foundation for Circumcision, Dr Fatih Soydemir said their intention was to continue with the initiative in the coming years to demonstrate their keenness to maintain a strong bond with the Zimbabwean community.

“We are promising to come here every year if this sacrifice is successful,” Dr Soydemir said.
