Turkish embassy donates to Dzivarasekwa Zimcare Trust School

The Turkish embassy has donated an assortment of groceries worth thousands of dollars to Batsirai Zimcare Trust school in Dzivarasekwa, Harare which caters for children living with disabilities.

The donation comes at a time when most orphanages and old people’s homes are facing food challenges because of fewer donors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Handing over the groceries, Turkish embassy representative Mr Adam Yidi Wadi said the embassy was touched by the plight of people living disabilities, hence their intervention in support of Government’s initiatives to cushion the vulnerable.

“We have noted that the most vulnerable are struggling to make ends meet during this Covid-19 lockdown. We are engaging people living with disabilities and those affected by Covid-19 so that they have a starting point in these hard times,” said Mr Wadi.

“Our old people should always be looked after with adequate means hence we have seen the need to help them during these Covid-19 trying times.”

Mr Wadi said they have been assisting the less privileged across the country.

“Covid-19 disturbed the normal way of life and many people have not been spared. The embassy is carrying out various humanitarian projects aimed at boosting the livelihoods of communities,” he said.

School head, Mr Kennedy Ushendibaba said the assistance from the embassy boosted their food supplies.

“The assistance came at the right time and this is a huge relief to us. We have 65 children living with disabilities at this school that we care for. We are thankful to the embassy,” he said.

He said besides food, they were facing other challenges.

“We are facing shortages of personal protection equipment and other learning aids for the children,” he said.
