Zimbabwe will continue to work with Turkiye in various areas of cooperation to develop and better the two nations’ economies, Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.
She made the remarks after a courtesy call by Türkiye Ambassador to Zimbabwe Berna Kasnakli Versteden at her office Tuesday.
The courtesy call comes as Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri and her delegation are due to attend a military show in Türkiye next week.
In her remarks, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri appreciated Türkiye’s understanding of Zimbabwe’s global position, particularly in the face of economic sanctions.
“Following President Mnangagwa’s foreign policy on engagement and re-engagement and friends to all and enemies to none, Türkiye is one of the first countries to accommodate Zimbabwe’s international interests,” she said.
“Türkiye has been supporting Zimbabwe in various interests such as health and trade.”
On the coming general elections, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said Türkiye is one of the key allies invited to come and observe the elections.
“Because we value our relationship very much, the Government of Zimbabwe has invited Türkiye to come and witness our peaceful elections coming up soon,” she said.
Ambassador Versteden, said her Government equally appreciates Zimbabwe’s relationship with her country.
Further, she said Zimbabwe is a key player in global politics hence Türkiye’s interest in helping Zimbabwe’s economic recovery programmes.
Türkiye and Zimbabwe have for long enjoyed cordial relations.
