MATABELELAND Tuskers amazingly atoned for their poor show in the Logan Cricket Cup by doing well in the shorter versions of the game.
In February, Tuskers were nowhere near the battle for the top gong in the country’s premier cricket competition after failing to win a single match in the four-day competition.
After being stirred up by their poor run to try and do well in the Pro 50 Championship final match against Eagles, Tuskers went down to Eagles by two wickets.
However, last Sunday, led by left arm spinner, Ainsley Ndlovu, Tuskers atoned for their poor show in the Logan Cup.
They did well again in the shorter version of the games where they won the domestic ZiT20 competition after they finished top of the round-robin points table.
Despite yet another fine innings by Craig Ervine, which might have been enough to win the match, in conditions that were difficult for run-scoring, the final was won by “Cyclone Idai on behalf of Tuskers”.
Rain interrupted play on and off throughout the day, and in the end, before even an innings could be finished in the afternoon’s final, it set in for so long that the match had to be abandoned without one innings being completed.
Under a grey sky, with no immediate prospect of rain but with a good chance of it later in the day, Mountaineers won the toss and put Tuskers in to bat.
While Tuskers, who had welcomed back Sikandar Raza, did not finish their overs as rains interrupted match proceedings, Mountaineers were not able to bat.
