MATABELELAND Tuskers cricket team brought some early Christmas cheer to the less privileged members of society housed at the Home of Peace in Bulawayo’s Thorngrove suburb when the players handed over foodstuffs as well as clothing.
The donation took place last Friday where Tuskers, led by their general manager Nicholas Singo, team manager Mbekezeli Mabuza and captain Brian Chari visited the centre to hand over the gifts.
Mabuza explained how the idea to make the donation came about, which he said was born out of a discussion he had with Chari when they were passing by the Home of Peace.

“One day we were passing by here with Brian Chari the captain of our team, we thought why not come here and do something for the people who live here. We then spoke to the rest of the team and decided to put something together and pay a visit,’’ Mabuza said.
Chari grew up in Nguboyenja, which is close to the Home of Peace and had some friends who lived at the centre.

“What’s important is that this place is close to Chari, he grew up behind here, when he grew up he had friends here, some of them we met them when we came here. What we brought here might not be much for now but it’s what we could manage to get, hopefully going forward we can do much better,’’ he said.
Home of Peace director Clive Krienke expressed his gratitude to Tuskers, as they were finding it hard to look after the children and adults housed at the centre.
“We are happy Tuskers donated these foodstuffs and clothing, we hope this is not the first and last time we will see you here, we hope that in future we will see more of you. We are trying our bit in trying and challenging circumstances,’’ Krienke said.
