Tuskers, the defending Castle Logan Cup champions who lost in their first ever limited overs final since the introduction of Franchise Cricket to Eagles by six runs through the Duckworth and Lewis method, will also be out for revenge.
In an interview yesterday, Tuskers’ captain Gavin Ewing said they have put to rest their final loss to Eagles.
“Like I said before, everyone was disappointed with the loss especially after putting so much hard work to get to the final. We have to put this loss (Pro-50 One-Day Cup) behind and focus on the future.
“Eagles are a good side but they have been struggling in the Castle Logan Cup and we do not want to be their first victims. We want to maintain our fine run in the longer version because our sights are set on winning the Castle Logan Cup for the third year in a row. As things stand, it’s possible and all we have to do is work hard, play basic cricket and win,” said Ewing.
Tuskers are at the top of the Castle Logan Cup log with four points from their first half of the season victories.
Tuskers beat MidWest Rhinos by three wickets, cruised to a 312 runs victory over Eagles and beat Manicaland Mountaineers by five wickets.
In the first leg against Southern Rocks that was played at Queens Sports Club, Tuskers beat the visitors by 10 wickets.
Some of the players to watch at Eagles include national team spin bowlers Prosper Utseya and Raymond Price.
They also have top-order batsman Stuart Matsikenyeri, hard-hitting Sikandar Raza, Nathan Waller and Forster Mutizwa who can carry the day for them.
On the other hand, Tuskers are likely to bank on Ewing, Terrence Duffin, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams and Keith Dabengwa who have been good with the bat.
Matabeleland Tuskers’ strength has been in bowling where they have national team seamer Christopher Mpofu, Glen Querl, Njabulo Ncube, John Nyumbu, Ewing, Keegan Meth and Dabengwa.
