Tuskers take on Botswana in white ball cricket

THE Botswana senior men national team is returning to Bulawayo for a white ball series starting on Thursday at Bulawayo Athletic Club against Tuskers.

The series will consist of one 50 over match as well as four T20 matches and Botswana will be using the series to prepare for their regional division two qualifiers. Three of the T20 matches will be played in the afternoon while the fourth one will be in the morning before Botswana leave the following day.

Nicholas Singo, the Tuskers general manager said having Botswana come over to Bulawayo means a lot to them and they intend to use the series to give some of their youngsters a taste of the international stage.

“It means a lot to for us as a franchise to have a national team coming over and we will take it very seriously as it is an opportunity to look at some of our fringe players,” said Singo.

After the series against Botswana, Tuskers return to action in the Pro50 Championship against Rhinos in back-to-back fixtures on October 28 and 30.

The Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association First League has, as a result of the series, been put on hold.

The local league commenced this past weekend for the 2022/23 season which saw both the First and Second leagues having matches. Two matches were played in the First League which saw Bulawayo Athletic Club proving strong for Amakhosi with a six wicket win in a match that was played at BAC on Sunday. In the other match, Queens Sports Club scored the highest total so far of the season in their 147 runs win over Nketa Cricket Club 1 at BAC as well. Batting first, Queens posted 264-8 in their 50 overs and bowled out new boys Nketa for 117 in 33.3 overs.

In the second league, Nketa 2 won by 26 runs against Gampu Lions. Wholesale Beef Bulls overpowered ZRP Bulawayo by 54 runs.

BAC 2 won by five runs (DLS method) against Queens Sports Club 2 in a match that was reduced to nine overs and their revised target became 50 which they chased down in exactly nine overs while the match between Roosters Cricket Club and Amakhosi Cricket Club 2 was a walkover in favour of Amakhosi. The last match was between Champions Cricket Club and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) which the latter won by 93 runs after posting 168-5 and restricting Champions to 75-5. –
