The players were selected during the Zimbabwe Soccer Africa trials conducted by Manchester City development coach, Steve Potts, and International director of Concept 4 Soccer, Stuart Monk at ZB Bank Sports Club.
The residential camp will be held from July 28 to August 2 with scouts from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Millwall FC, Brighton and Hove Albion FC, Everton FC, West Bromwich FC, Manchester City and Notts County expected to attend.
World Wide Scholarships, in partnership with Concept 4 Soccer International and the Professional Sports Management Group, brought in the two British coaches and the trials end today with Monk and Potts heading for Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will hold the same programme from Thursday to Sunday.
The trials in South Africa are expected to attract players from countries such as Mozambique, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Lesotho. Monk said there was a lot of potential. “I have travelled all over the world doing soccer trials camps and coaching clinics as well, to me we have been here for the past two days now and the players here have got a good basic tactical ability here.
“They have got the foundation, a lot of stuff to build on as well but for me there are some good players here, there’s some potential.
“Hopefully, in Johannesburg as well, we can find those players, we invite them back to our residential camp back in the UK and we work on their tactical ability and improve them and give them opportunities that they won’t have in Africa,” said Monk.
Monk said it takes a lot to be a professional football player.
